on whether they will re-engine or build an entirely new airplane, only stating that, “We are going to have the best airplane in every market that we serve.” Albaugh also noted that if Boeing does introduce a new airplane, they will do so with as little interruption as possible for customers and without destroying current values. Day two focused on the state of aircraft engines, ﬁnancing and leasing, with headline speakers including President Todd Kallman of Pratt & Whitney and President and CEO Jean-Paul Ebanga of CFM International, among others. Both meeting days included a wealth of panel discussions with industry thought leaders in addition to the general speakers. These included appraisers, ﬁnanciers and lessors panels, as well as discussions on the New Aircraft Sector Understanding and the export credit debate. The event sessions closed out with the lessors panel featuring Chairman and Chief Executive Ofﬁcer Steven Udvar-Hazy of Air Lease Corporation. As the panelists debated broader industry issues, Hazy commented on the A320neo, saying that given the massive ﬁnancial expenditure of the A380, Airbus did the most intelligent thing they could, since it would not be practical for them to launch a whole new airplane.

During the President’s Gala Dinner on the final evening of the conference, incoming ISTAT President and Conference Co-Chair Joe Ozimek thanked outgoing ISTAT President John Vitale, stating, “His leadership in the last two years has made this organization what it is today.” The tradition of recognizing luminaries in the aviation industry continued this year when Steven Udvar-Hazy presented the 2011 ISTAT Award to his “dear friend” Chairman of Azul Airlines David Neeleman, who accepted the award on behalf of all the individuals and companies who have supported him throughout the years, helping him to launch JetBlue and his new venture, Azul Airlines, remarking, “I’m just a visionary. I’m just a dreamer.”
