Sutton, Former Chairman ISTAT Foundation As my term as your ISTAT Foundation Chairman comes to an end, I want you to know how humbled I am to reﬂect on the past two years, looking back on the many accomplishments we have achieved. Although I’m the one who gets to speak of these accomplishments, my sincere gratitude goes out to our Board of Trustees and the many volunteers who have truly made it happen. But, most importantly, thanks to YOU, our members, who have graciously donated to the many causes we have sponsored these past few years. Without your great support, the many goals of this organization would never have been reached. I am truly grateful to each and every one of you for your passion, dedication and persistence in helping to make our vision a reality. With the help of our volunteers, it would not have been possible, ﬁrst and foremost, to raise the necessary funds— more than $750,000 last year alone—to be able to support our scholarships, grants, internships and humanitarian efforts. If not for the committees, it would not have been possible this year to award 38 domestic and international student scholarships, award 10 grants to wor thy organizations involved in aviation-oriented educational programs for youths, present opportunities to many future workers in our industry to participate in internship programs with our members’ companies and, very importantly, promote and support humanitarian aid globally using the collective resources of our members to assist our nonproﬁt humanitarian partners around the world. Seeing the vision of two of our trustees to create a new scholarship in the name of Hafthor Hafsteinsson, whose life recently came to a tragic end, become a

reality is another testament to the commitment of making things happen through the Foundation. That vision has enabled a special scholarship fund to live on in Hafﬁ’s memory.

AirLink directly arranged 18 flight missions to Haiti and donated funds to enable an additional 79, bringing more than 1,700 doctors and nurses in and out of Haiti over the past year.
One of our initiatives that has been met with overwhelming gratitude is the new ISTAT AirLink program which, in addition to other international projects, has been able to assist the many injured and disenfranchised residents of Haiti following last year’s earthquake. AirLink directly arranged 18 ﬂight missions to Haiti and donated funds to enable an additional 79, bringing more than 1,700

doctors and nurses in and out of Haiti over the past year. In addition, we moved 680,000 pounds of cargo by air, including recent shipments of medical and water puriﬁcation equipment, into the country. Having personally travelled to Port-au-Prince to see our accomplishments, I am truly pleased to report that our efforts are helping to make a difference in the overall health of such a needy community. Seeing the faces of the young and old receiving care at the hospital AirLink has been supporting was extremely gratifying. You can, indeed, be proud of the terriﬁc job your Foundation has been doing for good in this devastated country. As I leave my role as ISTAT Foundation Chairman, I am truly grateful to everyone for all that you have done to make my job meaningful, rewarding and enjoyable. It is easy to be the one to receive the accolades for the great work we have done. But the real gratitude goes to you, our members, who make it all possible. Thank you for your dedication to our causes. As I pass the gavel to our new Chairman, Warren Willets, I am conﬁdent the good work will continue, and under his leadership our Foundation will continue on with our great efforts. I thank each of you for allowing me to serve.
