Dear ISTAT colleagues, As you’re reading this, 2011 will be approaching the halfway point and ISTAT hopefully will have again demonstrated its value to you as a quality organization with a growing worldwide reputation for advancing aviation and providing valuable member beneﬁts. So far, my journey as ISTAT’s new president has been enjoyable, particularly with a successful 2011 Annual Conference. By all measures it was a great event. We had more than 1,300 paid attendees and a total crowd nearing 1,500. The speakers were industry leaders, indicative of the attractiveness that we’re offering as an industry-wide forum. In fact, more than one conference media report referenced the status we’re earning as the “U.S. Air Show.” We also seem to have succeeded in our goal to allow enough time for networking. The Scottsdale event was engineered to have plenty of breaks to create numerous opportunities for conducting business discussions. After all, that’s how a lot of business gets done, and that was certainly the case at the conference. And we complemented our casual encounters with some great receptions, including the ending gala dinner that was very entertaining and exceptionally well planned. ISTAT’s current health and growing success is no accident. It’s the result of hard working and dedicated leadership, with particular credit going to our outgoing president and my friend, John Vitale. John, thanks for all you’ve done to help us! I’m pleased that as past president, you’ll be with us on the Board for two more years and we can look forward to more of your sage advice on helping ISTAT prosper. Hopefully, you may be reading this while on your way to or at our ﬁrst Asian conference. The ISTAT China Conference on May 16-17 is the realization of our Board’s desire to further expand ISTAT’s global presence. As evidenced by our turnouts in the U.S. and Europe, we have a solid following in those regions. We’d like to do the same in what is already one of the world’s largest aviation markets—Asia—and the Beijing event represents a great start. Beyond China, we’re looking forward to our European conference in Barcelona in mid-September. Last year in Munich we attracted nearly 800 participants. This year has every indication of being larger, so book early! Speaking of having the opportunity to meet, I’m looking forward to getting to know each of you.
