ISTAT calendar New York Holiday Reception 5 December 2012 Inside Park at St. Bart’s New York City, NY ISTAT news Steven Udvar-Házy to Receive 2012 Howard Hughes Memorial Award from Aero Club of Southern California The Aero Club of Southern California will honor ISTAT member Steven F. Udvar-Házy, chairman and CEO of Air Lease Corporation, with its 2012 Howard Hughes Memorial Award, according to ACSC president Nissen Davis. The award is presented annually to an aerospace leader whose accomplishments over a long career have contributed significantly to the advancement of aviation or space technology. It will be presented at the Jonathan Club, Los Angeles on 13 February 2013. Udvar-Házy is the 34th recipient of the award whose previous honorees include Jack Northrop, Jimmy Doolittle, Neil Armstrong, Chuck Yeager, Fred Smith and Bob Six. He will receive a medallion made from silver from the Hughes mines in Nevada. A commemorative sculpture bearing the names of award recipients is on permanent display at the Flight Path Museum at Los Angeles International Airport. The awards banquet is open to the public. A senior executive with Pratt and Whitney and the founder of International Aero Engines (IAE) as an organization, Rosati is considered the “Father of IAE and the V2500”. Much of IAE’s initial concept of being a multi-national consortium involving numerous engine manufacturers, was his. Rosati served twice as IAE’s president, including the organization’s first presidential term. A veteran of both World War II and the Korean War, he served as a board member of numerous organizations, and was a friend and mentor to many.
