new products THREE-IN-ONE SIMULATOR RUAG Aerospace has s developed the MISSIM SSIM (missile simulator), a , flight line tester that sim at simulates radar, laser and mismulates sile threats. Designed for testing the effectiveness of ed fo or a wide range of air, ground and sea EW systems, the r, gro ound MISSIM covers a 2- to 36-GHz radar frequency range, the high-band/mid-band spectrum for lasers and the -band UV and IR spectrums for missiles. The 4.2-lb unit meams for sures 10 x 10 x 20 cm, an can function from 20 meters m, and nd away. It offers up to 255 free programmable scenarios scenarios, 55 and can simulate weapon systems simultaneously. Other features include an internal self-test, a Windows-based programming tool, remote control or data link and eye safety. RUAG Aerospace, Emmen, Switzerland, SMALL WIDEBAND DATA RECORDER The BroadFlex-3800TM series, a line of fl ight-capable, wideband data recorders from DSPCon, measures 19 x 20 x 22.75 inches, making it well-suited for ELINT and COMINT applications in UAVs and other small aircraft. The 200-lb unit offers 560 Watts of power input and sampling rates ranging from 35 to 125 MHz, with 8 to 32 channels of 14gg bit analog-to-digital converters bit a i (ADCs) that can be recorded (A D A onto ont twin, compact JBOD storage units. Additional storage is found fou in 160- and 350-gigabyte disk drives. The user can operk ate it remotely or via Ethernet, and can access and archive data post-fl post- ight with a PC-based analyzer. T lyzer The unit functions from 0 to 50 degrees Celsius at a maximum height of 15,000 feet. DSPCon, Bridgewater, NJ, BROADBAND POWER AMPLIFIERS Spectrum Microwave has launched the QB-900 series of broadband power amplifiers, operating from 2 to 6 GHz with up to 4 Watts of output power. Designed for use in jammers, preamp drivers and other defense systems, the lightweight amplifiers are cased in a surface-mount package with an optional high-performance heatsink. Other features include internal blocking caps, biasing circuitry, RF matching and no external circuitry – the amplifiers use only a DC power supply. Spectrum Microwave, Palm Bay, FL, RF SIGNAL GENERATOR 46 The Journal of Electronic Defense | September 2008 Rohde & Schwarz has introduced the SMB100M, a highperformance RF signal generator based on the company’s SMB100A analog signal generator. The unit has a measurement range of 9 kHz to 6 GHz and is ideal for military applications, with high RF output power, high spurious and harmonic signal suppression, fast measurement speed and low single-sideband phase noise. Functioning on four main modules, it alerts the user when a module needs to be replaced, which can be done on site. The 11.7-lb unit can withstand temperatures from 0 to 55 degrees Celsius and can operate at a maximum altitude of 4,600 meters. Rohde & Schwarz, Munich, Germany, 16-BIT ANALOG I/O MODULE The BenADDA-16, a high-speed analog I/O and signal processing module from Nallatech, features dual analog-todigital converter (ADC) and digital-to-analog converter (DAC) channels that are directly coupled to a Xilinx Virtex™-5 FPGA. Designed for SIGINT, EW and software-defined operations, the unit is available with a choice of three user FPGAs – the Xilinx Virtex-5 SX95T-2, LX155T-2 or FX100T-2. It features two 16-bit 180-MSPS Linear Technology LTC2209 ADCs and one dual-channel 16-bit 1GSPS Texas Instruments DAC5682Z DAC. Each LTC2209 ADC reaches up to 12.5 effective number of bits (ENOB), with a signal-to-noise ratio of 76.6 dB and a spurious free dynamic range of 84 dB. The module also features external trigger and clock inputs, which enable users to sample p p both channels at once. Two banks of QDR-II SRAM ce. c memory, combined with the FPGA, offer 9 w GB/sec of total memory bandwidth mory m for double buffering algorithm g and ADC data. Supporting orting o software comprises Windows, Linux and VXWorks. Nallatech, Baltimore, MD, www. L-BAND BLADE ANTENNA The 11C23300 from Cobham Defense Electronic Systems’ Nurad Division is an L-Band blade antenna designed for supersonic fl ight aboard aircraft. It features omni-directional azimuth coverage, 3-dB peak gain, vertical polarization and low VSWR. Other features include a single coaxial connector, a fl at conductive base plate and its all-metallic make-up, sealed construction and rain erosion antistatic coating make it well-suited for high aerodynamic operations.
