What’s in Your Truck?
FROM WATER BOTTLES TO IPHONE CHARGERS,
Constructor magazine asks AGC members what treasures and tools they carry in their truck. Each issue will feature a new member. Jose Hernandez has worked in construction for 15 years and with Granite Construction Company in Bakersfield, Calif. for the last nine. As a project manager, he spends the majority of his day in the field, driving his Ford F150 Extended Cab truck, working in conjunction with his crews.
Hernandez keeps the following in his truck
◗ Water — The more drinking water on hand at a construction site the better. It gets hot in Bakersfield. ◗ Cell Phone — It’s imperative to retain the ability to communicate with crews, subcontractors, and owners at any moment’s notice. Cell phones give contractors that luxury. ◗ Pillow & Blanket — A normal day can turn into an overnight stay. ◗ Hard Hat & Vest — According to Hernandez, personal protection equipment (PPE) is a must at all construction sites. Safety is Granite’s number one priority. ◗ Basic Tools — Access to basic tools can sometimes make all the difference in the world. Hernandez carries the essentials. ◗ Plans & Specifications — It’s important to have plans and specifications on hand at all times.
