Wrapping up STAND UP FOR rural America! Every year NRWA promotes this message all across the nation. “Let your voice be heard” was the catalyst as over 500 rural water family members descended on Washington, D.C. and the congressional offices of Senators and Congress members in April. The Great American Water Taste Test 2009 The Water Taste Test National Rural Water Association The Great American Water Taste Test celebrated its tenth anniversary by awarding the coveted Gold Medal to Perdido Bay Water, Sewer and Fire Protection District, Elberta, Ala. With over 40 entries from across the nation, Perdido Bay was singled out in a close competition between the five finalists chosen earlier in the week. The five finalists included the City of Manton, Mich. (Bronze Medal winner), Allen County Water District, Allen County, Ken., (Silver Medal winner), South Central Regional Water District, Bismarck, P id t Sheldon President Sh ld presenting B ti Bruce Hortman, Perdido Bay, with the GAWTT Gold Medal. Best Water USA in the N.D. and Morgan County Quality Water District, Ft. Morgan, Colo. For the first time in this annual competition, there was a tie, as the judges faced a “drink-off” to determine the winner. Judges were Melanie Rhinehart Van Tassell of U.S. Representative Earl Pomeroy’s office, Jim Maras, deputy assistant administrator for Utilities Programs, USDA Rural Development, and Rocky Owens, vice-president, Engineered Storage Products Company, a 4 Star sponsor of NRWA.
