Stone, Sand and Gravel Review - May/June 2012 - (Page 41)
The metal/non-metal mining industry is hosting cooperative mine safety and health workshops around the nation to increase awareness of mining hazards. Safety professionals from mining companies, associations and MSHA are sharing information and experiences in dealing with mining hazards. The Spring Thaw opportunities coincide with winter’s end, when many intermittently operated mining operations begin producing again, often with new employees who may be new to the mining environment. Statistics show that accidents tend to increase during April and May. This educational outreach effort is designed to assist the mining industry in improving safety and health.
Joe Casper, NSSGA’s vice president for Safety Services, reviewed the industry’s issues at the Spring Thaw in Columbus, Ohio, March 22. The Second Annual “RALLY for ROADS” brought hundreds of supporters to Washington, D.C., on March 20 to advocate for transportation funding. NSSGA joined members of 15 transportation construction industry associations for the nation’s largest transportation funding advocacy rally.
NSSGA President and CEO Joy Pinniger discusses the national issues of the aggregates industry at the Indiana Mineral Aggregates Association Winter Workshops on February 8.
