POOL DESIGN | by Phil Bach Hydraulic Design for IMPRESSIVE EFFECTS I often tell people that it’s possible to learn everything important about hydraulics by drinking through a straw. Give a moment’s thought to which type of straw is easier to drink water through: a cocktail straw or the kind you get with a milkshake. Obviously, it is easier to drink through the larger straw. If you keep that in mind whenever you design a swimming pool, you’ll have practically mastered hydraulics. 18
