new & noteworthy PMPI Cares Supports Professional Development by Tammy Kockaya, CMP Corporate Executive Board PMPI Director of Chapter Special Interest Groups 2 1 3 4 My panic set in around mid-November. The CMP exam was less than two months away and I had not done the studying I should have in preparation for the exam. Due to a busy fall, the weekly study course was not an option, the PCMA online course was too expensive and I wasn’t sure where to turn to get the help I needed to effectively learn and review the material. Around the same time, the Industry Designations Committee with PMPI announced the pilot of a weekend comprehensive review session for the first weekend in December, but it cost nearly $200 for members. While my company was financially supportive of the $450 registration fee for the exam, there simply weren’t enough funds available to cover the weekend course. So I turned to PMPI Cares. Through a simple application process I was approved to receive the registration fee to pay for the weekend review session. Friday night through Saturday a small group of us were able to review the content, take numerous practice exams, ask questions of knowledgeable facilitators and each other and make some new friends. The weekend course helped me to see what I needed to focus on in the month leading up to the exam and what I already knew. Thanks to PMPI Cares and the generosity of those who have contributed money to support the fund, I was able to participate in an activity that was the single most critical thing I did in preparation for and, ultimately passing, the exam (Well, outside of actually reading the CIC Manual, of course). If you would like to apply for a scholarship or donate to PMPI Cares, please visithttp://www.pmpi.org/cares. Scholarships are available for registration fees to professional development events such as CMP study courses, learning experiences and conferences. If you would like to contribute to PMPI Cares, you can also do so on your next registration to attend a chapter event.
