The Pantry wanted to ensure that its program still met the light levels that were necessary for attracting customers to the stations, and reduce energy usage as well as maintenance costs. The project was also based on utilizing rebate incentives. best PrActice: The electrical contractor (EC) was provided with the list of stations that would be part of the retrofit. The EC filed the paperwork on behalf of The Pantry for the rebates. The scope of work was to replace existing 400-watt under-gas canopy lighting with new LSI Crossover three LED fixtures that were purchased by The Pantry. The EC provided all labor, equipment, project management and rebate research and filing of all customer rebates for this project. All utility calculations were provided to the utility and met the criteria of more than one year or fewer than seven years ROI. The EC handled the scheduling of all pre and post inspections required by the utilities. Final rebate filings were completed and rebate checks were delivered to The Pantry the project was completed on time, saving The Pantry maintenance costs, energy costs and providing Pantry customers with a safe well-lit environment in which to shop. results: The Pantry installed new LED gas canopy light fixtures replacing existing 400W metal halide fixtures. The LED fixtures were 193-watt, resulting in a 265W savings per fixture. In addition to the $115.75 energy saved per fixture, a rebate was also collected at an average of $0.08 kWh saved (approximately $125 per fixture on average). The overall project of 25 locations resulted in $68,750 in rebate dollars, a warranty of five years on the LED fixtures and energy savings of $3,000-$6,000 per year depending on the number of fixtures per station. For the next five years these fixtures will deliver the light levels that are required by The Pantry offering its customers the well-lit environment that they demand. VeriFicAtion oF eFFiciency And sAVings cAPtured: • Maintenance savings of $20 per year per fixture. • Energy savings of $115.75 per year per fixture. • Utility incentive - approximately $125 per fixture. Simple payback - 3-5 years depending on station. 2012 Best Practices | 33
