THE FELLOWS PROJECT/ On the Tuesday evening of ASID at NeoCon 2010, more than 60 ASID members gathered in the beautiful Chicago Ligne Roset showroom to attend The Fellows Project – the second event in the Society’s newly introduced Emerging Professional Town Hall series. Attended by a mix of students and graduates in their first few years of practice, The Fellows Project featured a panel of six ASID Fellows—an honor bestowed upon some of the Society’s most esteemed members—who offered sage and candid advice on building and sustaining a career as an interior design industry leader. The panelists were carefully selected to represent a diverse mix of design practice backgrounds. Pat Kluetz, ASID, 2008-2010 ASID Student Advisory Council Chair, moderated the event and asked the panel impromptu questions such as “Tell us about a bad/scary/frightening professional experience you had, how you resolved it and what you learned from it?” The audience of rising designers also had opportunities to ask questions and provide comments of their own, adding balance and genuine relevance to the conversation at hand. Additionally, the event’s schedule allowed plenty of time before and after the panel discussion for networking and continued dialogue. The overall Emerging Professional Town Hall series program provides an opportunity for new designers to engage in open-floor discussions on topics relevant to their career stage. The town hall events allow for interaction with fellow emerging professionals and industry leaders alike. Each event is also available virtually, broadcast live via streaming video and/or recorded and posted online for viewing at our members’ convenience. You can access The Fellows Project Town Hall recording online at www.asid.org/media/townhall.
