Arturo Alvarez celebrates 20 years
of crafting decorative lighting with
handmade techniques.
Richmond, Virginia-based Glave
& Holmes Architecture's hotel and
home studio designer Shawna
Schmidt attended the BITAC
conference in March, while the
company's principal, and hotel
and home studio director Gary
Inman attended HOTEC. Interiors
studio designer Vanessa Smith
welcomed a baby girl, Olivia
Harper Smith on July 5th.

Steffany Orjuela and Bryan
Michael got engaged on July 5th,
2014. They will wed in April 2015.

HB Architectural Lighting hired of
Carolyn Aycock, founder of Aycock
& Company, as manufacturer
sales representative for Atlanta.
More than 50 industry
leaders collectively discussed
environmental challenges to
discover new solutions for a
more sustainable hotel industry
at the third annual Futuregreen
Hospitality Forum in May at the
Crosby Hotel. Seven sustainable
ideas were presented at the
conference, a Stonehill & Taylor
and Interior Design event-one
winning team was selected,
earning a $2,500 prize. The
concept, the Smart Stand, was
conceived by Tara Mastrelli, Mary
MacDonald, Cece Stelljes, Sally
Reis, Stacy Shoemaker Rauen, Ted
Brumleve, and Dianne Orlina.
Vicki Wiles Elliott is now the vice
president of national accounts at
Kellex Seating.

Seattle-based Degen & Degen hired new team members: interior
designer Morgan Watson; and architectural designers Nate
Anderson, Tony Ji, and Eric Murphy. The firm's design of the Stadium
Place Embassy Suites, a 23-story, 282-room hotel (with architecture
by Freiheit & Ho Architects) located next to CenturyLink Field in
Seattle, will be completed this summer, becoming the brand's U.S.
flagship.
The Atlantic City/Philadelphia
chapter's Dine and Design
event on June 4th was a huge
success. Lee Brotsker of LB Design
made a presentation describing
his restaurant design for the
Princeton in Avalon, New Jersey,
and attendees enjoyed a dinner
and a tour of the Diving Horse
Restaurant, also in Avalon.
Katie Zuidema switched career
paths to become the account
executive of West Coast gaming
for Durkan Hospitality.
To better serve the hospitality
carpet industry for the entire
Middle East and Africa region, OW
Hospitality has further developed
its management, design staff, and
sales support in its Dubai office to
provide additional service to the
Gulf countries.
The Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya
had its grand opening on May 4th,
with the ceremonial guitar smash
and a concert by Jon Bon Jovi and
the Kings of Suburbia. Interiors
of the all-inclusive property were
designed in collaboration with
Hard Rock Studios by Jeffery Beers,
Tandem, FODA, 555 International,
and FFD.

Local firm Michelle Meredith and Associates completed
renovations to the public areas of the historic Le Méridien Dallas,
the Stoneleigh in March. The European design ties in local
Dallas culture consistent with Le Méridien brand. The company's
marketing director, Madeline Clark, married Paul Field in the Texas
Hill Country on April 12th.

Christine Topf has a new role
as the Midwest hospitality sales
manager for Desso Masland.
Desso's Light Transmissive Carpet,
snagged the top spot in Interior
Design's Top 10 at NeoCon.
