NEWH - Fall 2014 - 22

In Remembrance: Cliff Tuttle
When I married Cliff 's brother Phil, I didn't get a brother-in-law, I got a playmate and friend-in-law. Cliff was always so kind,
accepting, and sweet to me. I felt like his big sister. When Phil and I got married, Cliff and his mom gave us our wedding night in a
hotel as part of our gift. Cliff made sure we had a limo to take us to the hotel, which in those days had to be borrowed from a funeral
home. After we left the reception, the limo proceeded to drive to the outskirts of town where he pulled up outside the sleaziest
motel in town. The driver informed us this was to be our destination for our wedding night because, after all, they were on a limited
budget. I took one look and said, 'I'm not staying here.' After a good chuckle the driver then took us to a wonderful hotel. I know Cliff
was dying laughing knowing I would be mortified.
When the kids were a little older, he loved coming at Christmas and bringing the cool gift, which he knew probably wasn't in our
budget. We were in Arkansas and Nintendo had just come out. Of course the kids had to have it. After they opened it and we played
with it, Cliff and I realized that if we wanted to stand any chance of beating the kids, we had better stay up late and practice. We had
watched Bobby jump in his seat whenever he wanted Mario to jump over some obstacle. So, that night at about 2 a.m. (and after just a
little bit of alcohol) there we were, in the family room hopping in our seats trying to make Mario jump. Imagine our surprise when we
finally realized that you didn't have to physically jump up and down to make Mario jump. We laughed so hard that we fell on the floor.
I truly don't think he ever imagined the number of lives that he touched and made better just by knowing him. He just wanted to
make sure that everyone felt loved each and every day. It would be hard to imagine our lives if Cliff had not been a part of it, and it is
even harder to imagine that he won't be there in person for the rest of the fun times that are coming. I miss him.

My favorite memory of Cliff is when we were at an HD Summit in Vail several years ago. He had never skied, but that didn't stop
him from clipping into skis, getting on the lift, and going to where no sane, non-skiing person of any age would have gone. With his ice
skating experience and glee of the moment, he did amazingly well. And I would say he probably had more fun than any of us that day.
That's Cliff ! I will treasure this memory and hope that it rings true for others and brings a smile to their face, just as Cliff would enjoy.
