Set in Stone
Mandy Li's entrepreneurial flair translates
to success in hospitality

M

andy Li initially planned for an acting
career. After studying drama and then
working for China Central Television,
the Chongqing native launched a TV
commercial company in Beijing. While she
loved her entrepreneurial role, she was bored
in the entertainment realm. "I needed to do
something different," she reflects. "I had a friend
in Japan who worked in the stone industry. I
visited the factory, saw how he operated his
business, and I thought maybe it was time for
me to form my own company."
Captivated by this new direction, the Indiana
University graduate did exactly that, launching
a Los Angeles business in 1997 devoted to
producing and importing natural stone and quartz
from China. In 2010, looking for a fresh start in
the wake of the economic recession, Li rebranded
as Mandy Li Collection, with a now robust
portfolio spanning product lines as diverse as
engineered stone, casegoods, and interior doors.
Beyond the day-to-day operations of creating
custom interior environments for the multihousing, assisted living, healthcare, and hospitality
industries at its California headquarters,
manufacturing for Mandy Li Collection takes
place at a 550,000-square-foot facility in Xiamen,
