BDNY

More than 5,100 hospitality design professionals attended
the fourth annual Boutique Design New York (BDNY) trade
fair in November, which is co-located with the International
1
Hotel, Motel + Restaurant Show at the Jacob Javits Center..
Boasting a show floor 50 percent larger than last year,
the King & Grove-designed exhibit hall featured 375
manufacturers, as well as three design-driven, sponsoredproduct areas for networking and seminars: The Bar at
BDNY by dash design, Shades Terrace Bar by Design Poole,
and the King & Grove Lounge designed by King & Grove.
Competition winners Diva Guestroom by Studio Gaia and
the Taco Bar by Joemy Vega, featuring a handpainted graffiti
mural, were also built out on the show floor. And the show's
conference program addressed such topics as how to make every
project more sustainable, the latest trends in lighting and design
technology, what's new in New York hospitality design, and the
new rules for hotel design, planning, and development. Save the
date for this year's shows: BDNY will be held November 9-10th,
and IHMRS runs November 8-11th.

San Francisco Bay Area

It has been a busy few months for the chapter. In September, Jones Lang LaSalle gave an analysis of the industry in the Bay
Area and beyond at the State of the Industry event held at the Presidio Golden Gate Club. The chapter's signature fundraiser,
Wine by Design, raised more than $17,500 for scholarship, and offered the 165 attendees two Sonoma winery tours and
a grape stomp. Thanks to the sponsors: RH Contract, ForrestPerkins, Carnegie, Stone Source, Shaw Hospitality Group,
and Lasvit. In November, three scholarships were awarded at the scholarship and Top ID event at the Hotel Zetta. And in
December, the chapter hosted a fundraiser for Maitri, an AIDS hospice in the city. Members and guests donated gift cards,
books, and DVDs as Christmas gifts for the Maitri clients, live music came courtesy of Serotonins, led by the chapter's own
Jim Ferlin, and many participated in an ugly sweater contest.
