Collaborative Economy the crowd is empowered
to get what they need from each other. The crowd
in essence becomes the company you purchase
from. Some examples that Jeramiah shared were:
Lift, an informal cab, connecting people that
have time to drive someone with someone who
needs a ride; Surfair, a shared jet with a monthly
membership; Lending Club, a crowd-funding company-when
people were unable to obtain loans during the economic crisis
the up surge of crowd-funding was a way people could get what
they need from each other, instead of "the man"; Feastly is one
of the newest ideas in the sharing economy with opportunities
to experience authentic food at someone's house; Liquidspace is
a company that connects people to unused work space in a coworking environment; and Yerdle is a consumer products sharing
site founded by Andy Ruben, the former chief strategy office of
Walmart, formed from the belief that we need to activate the
unproductive stuff that has already been purchased, shifting from
a consumerism economy to a sharing economy-UC Berkley's
research has shown that an average car is idle 90 percent of
its life.
So, what is causing this shift in our consumer driven culture?
* Societal factors; 75 percent of people are going to share
physical objects and spaces in the next five years.
* The pure number of people that will live on the earth by 2050
will far exceed the capacity for the planet to support. In 1975,

four billion people lived on earth,
by 2050 there will be nine billion
people.
* Technology, the emergence of
smart phones and ability to connect
any product with an electronic chip
has made for efficient transactions.
To recap, the three main concepts Jeremiah shared were:
1. People are empowered to get what they need from each other.
2. The crowd is becoming like the company and they will bypass
inefficient corporations.
3. Traditional companies can use the same tools and strategies
to regain relevance. ❙❘❚
