Above and left: City Escape, part of Milliken's Moment
collection, plays on popular hues by melding gray with a
vibrant red or a more neutral white and black palette.

The undertone of general color trends cycles between primary
colors-red, yellow, and blue-but as the world becomes more
global, that cycle is quickening. And yet, bold colors and neutrals
remain a constant.
"We continue to see multiple shades of blue as strong players
in the family of popular colors as well as a broad spectrum of
pearlescent and metallic," explains Matt DeShantz, vice president
at Fabricut Contract. And, "various shades of indigo, moving
toward the aqua and light lavender sides of that hue" are
also making waves, adds Amy Jaekel, OW Hospitality's U.S.
style leader.
Blood orange, tangerine, and rich red highlights with blue
undertones are making a strong statement. Coral hues are also
more prominent, DeShantz adds, while "once popular wheat gold
and muted plum shades seem to be specified less often."
While a bold use of color, often with red undertones,
dominates, gray's ubiquity that continues to influence design.
It's the new beige, says Dina Poindexter, creative coordinator at
Signature Hospitality Carpets. "It's so universal."
"Right now, grays have the red undertones that other colors
also feature at the moment," Roman says. "In a few years, we
might see grays transition to a blue base, but the color itself will
have a lasting presence."
It's the ultimate neutural, Jaekel adds. "It can be warm or cool,
and it gets along with everyone. Gray is definitely here to stay." ❙❘❚
