Establishing a sense of place was also paramount. The colors
in the Driftwood Spa, for instance-complete with whitewashed
ceiling planks and doors and graywashed millwork-embody the
ocean and the beach. In the lobby, tiles in tan and brown hues
surround the check-in stations and fireplace area.
The getaway's Seasons restaurant-which encompasses
multiple dining experiences including the Kitchen Counter, an
interactive chef 's table, and private dining (along with a barista
bar and grab-and-go options)-is enhanced with a modern
flare inside and out. An olive tree, a symbol of food, family,
and coastal California, shades seating on the 1,400-square-foot
terrace. Natural light floods in the expo kitchen and bar through
large windows and a skylight, while added sliding doors from
the restaurant to the lobby to reinforce an indoor-outdoor vibe.
Inset carpet in the dining room features a floral pattern overlay
for a feminine touch. "All those little things that sometimes go
unnoticed, get noticed when they're not done correctly," Polacek
