NEWH - Summer 2017 - 34

Q&A

ONE-ON-ONE WITH

Leslie
Wynne
How did you become involved in NEWH?

I believe in the mission statement and the opportunities that NEWH provides for students and
professionals in our industry.

What has NEWH done for you, both personally and professionally?

NEWH has provided me with many wonderful opportunities to not only grow professionally
but personally. It has taught me unique leadership skills, the ability to work with a variety of
different people, and to network locally and nationally.

In your role as Dallas chapter president, what do you have planned for 2017?

I'm most excited to lead an amazing board made up of some of the most tenacious, creative,
and passionate people in the design and hospitality industry. We have a very exciting year
ahead of us, filled with incredible events, speakers, and tours. It's inspiring to see how we
continue to evolve and grow bigger and better with each passing year.

Dallas chapter president and
senior designer, Remington
Hotels

What were some of the highlights of 2016?

Last year was a milestone year for the Dallas chapter as we celebrated our 25th anniversary.
As we say here in Texas, 'Go big or go home' and that's exactly what we did. At our combined
scholarship awards dinner and fundraising event we gave more than $35,000 in scholarships,
celebrated two very deserving recipients of the Joyce Johnson award, and raised $43,000!

Tell us a bit about your company and what's new.

I am a registered senior designer for Remington Hotels, an owner/operator of a large and
diverse portfolio of branded and independent boutique hotels. As part of the in-house design
team, I have the opportunity and privilege to work with a variety of talented designers and
industry experts. Working for Remington has given me invaluable design experience and has
taught me not only what it takes to make a hotel beautiful but also sustainable, profitable, and
current with the latest brand standards and industry trends.

Trend you are paying attention to in the industry?

The trend I'm most interested in is the idea of creating interactive and engaging lobbies
to bring people out of their guestroom. In a tech-savvy generation of people buried in
their smartphones, it is becoming rarer to see people interacting with each other and their
surroundings. Technology isn't going away, and we must embrace the good with the bad. It's
our job to adapt and mold the ever-changing landscape to create spaces that are inclusive
and activated to open doors for a new era of interface.

When you aren't working or at an NEWH event, where can we find you?

You can usually find me outside. I love spending time by the pool reading a good book,
enjoying a glass of wine on the patio with my husband and friends, or at the dog park with my
two precious German Shepherds. Before the sun rises, you can usually find me out on a run
with my dogs, at boot camp, or yoga. ❙❘❚
