GETTING TO KNOW

Debbie
McKelvey
What have you found to be most valuable about your NEWH involvement, both
personally and professionally?

Since I travel for my job I get to meet new people all over the country in the different NEWH
chapters. Everyone has the same goals in mind: raise money for scholarships, educate, and
network. It's great to brainstorm with other chapters and see the different ways each go
about it.

Why do you recommend people get involved with NEWH?

Everyone needs to give back in some way. It makes the work you do each day more
rewarding, both professionally and personally. NEWH has so many different ways to get
involved and be part of a great mission.

What is your proudest recent NEWH accomplishment?

NEWH BrandED Chair and
director of in-line sales,
Bernhardt Hospitality

I was recently asked to help rollout the new BrandED program. We are off to a great start
and looking forward to hitting more chapters this year with the event. It's a great educational
event for design community members who are working on branded hotel projects.

What are you most looking forward to?

This industry is always changing and evolving. It's great to be part of it, and I can't wait to
see where the design of hotels, restaurants, and other public areas will be in five or even 10
years from now.

What would people be interested to know about your company?

We do custom! So many people know Bernhardt from our residential side, but we offer so
much more. Each of our three divisions caters to the different aspects of the business.

Where do you find inspiration, both inside and outside the industry?

Of course, inspiration comes from travel, fashion, and even food. Getting out and
experiencing it all opens your eyes to different worlds and possibilities, but my two teenage
girls wow me every day.

When you aren't working or at an NEWH event, where can we find you?

I love to be home, working outside in the yard or inside cooking for my family. It really makes
me appreciate all life has to offer us. ❙❘❚
