NEWH Green Voice Conversations
Take the Floor at BDNY
NEWH Green Voice Conversations wrap the 2019 season on Sunday,
November 10, 2019, with four sessions at Boutique Design New York
(BDNY), the hospitality trade fair at Jacob K. Javits Center in New York.

Join NEWH in booth 2663 for lunch and conversations at 11:00am, noon, 12:30pm, and 1:15pm.
11:00am-Noon
Natural Nuances: How to Design for Health-LED
Restaurants
When you green the menu, you have to green the space, too. Go
beyond LEED, with food for thought on sustainable materials,
installation techniques, and even maintenance practices that
make the interiors of natural and organic venues as good for
guests as the "noms."
Presenters:
Dan Kwan, Chief Creative Officer and Principal, Wilson
Associates
Tracey Sawyer, Co-Founder, Krause Sawyer
Moderator:
Eileen Madigan, Global Vice President of Interior Design, Las
Vegas Sands Corporation
Noon-12:30pm
Designing for Human Wellness
With a focus on designing for evolving social, ecological, cultural,
and economic needs, this session reviews evidence-based
design strategies and emerging trends in design-based thinking.
Presenter:
Ethan Lu, AIA, IIDA, NCIDQ, IDEC, LEED AP BD+C, Assistant
Professor, Fashion Institute of Technology
Moderator:
Chris Mundell, AIA, CDT, LEED Fellow, Associate Principal, VAI
Architects Incorporated

12:30pm-1:15pm
Behavior vs. Design: Crafting Change
A program outlines necessity while the art of anticipating
behavior informs design. What happens when we attempt to
lead behavior toward new habits? Together we'll explore using
architecture and policy to influence cultural shifts that increase
health and wellbeing.
Presenters:
Mary Alice Palmer, Principal/Senior Vice President/Director
of Global Hospitality Interiors, HKS
Dan Doyle, Senior Designer, Wilson Associates
Moderator:
William Langmade, LEED AP, CEO/President, Purchasing
Management International
1:15pm-2:00pm
Adaptive Reuse: What's Old Can Be New Again
Originally constructed in 1874, the Hayden Flour Mill is one of
Arizona's oldest and most storied landmarks. When the Tempebased mill stopped production in 1997, developers considered
options to adapt and reuse the mill and silos, yet none have
come to fruition. An NEWH Design Competition entry by
husband-and-wife team Raquel Raney and Brennan Broome
conceives a compelling adaptive reuse proposal focused on
embodied carbon reduction with enhanced
sustainable integration.
Presenters:
Raquel Raney, Junior Designer, EoA Group | Malcolm Berg
Brennan Broome, Junior Designer, EoA Group | Malcolm Berg
