Q&A

GET TO KNOW

What have you found to be most valuable about your NEWH involvement, both
personally and professionally?
NEWH has always felt like a family to me. The community is welcoming, friendly, and inviting
and I truly love spending time with them. I look forward to the monthly events because I know
I get to hang out with my hospitality family and I always leave with a full and happy heart.

Why do you recommend people get involved with NEWH?
In many organizations you may feel like a small part of it, or invisible at events. With NEWH,
we are such a tight knit close community that you can walk into a room and always see a
friend or come out of the events with a new friend. There are so many opportunities so you
can scale your desire to volunteer based on the time you have.

What is your proudest recent NEWH accomplishment?

NEWH, Inc. director of
scholarship, and senior project
designer, HBA

For almost a decade, I had wanted to be more involved in NEWH and this year I was given the
gift of being nominated as the scholarship director for the NEWH, Inc. International Board of
Directors. Seeing the joy and gratitude on the scholarship winners' faces and knowing we've
helped make a difference in their future is truly the best part of this year. These students are
so important to the future of our industry and I have been very thankful to help be a small
part of that.

What are you most looking forward to?
My local chapter, Rocky Mountain, has been working on growing and evolving within our
community. We really have a great team and I am looking forward to seeing our growth in the
next couple of years.

Where do you find inspiration, both inside and outside the industry?
Lately, inspiration to me has been less about finding trends and colors (although I can't
escape that), but more about how people are experiencing spaces in this new world. I have
been so fascinated by watching behavioral patterns of people and studying the new ways we
are engaging with our environments. There is such a huge shift in the way we interact in the
spaces and with other people. My mind has been spinning and I find it absolutely fascinating
to start thinking about the future of design and the strong connection to behavior that we will
have to retrain ourselves on in the post-COVID world.

When you aren't working or at an NEWH event, where can we find you?
I have found myself heavily involved in the City of Denver's urban planning community.
What started as a passion project to make my street safer has evolved into coordinating
neighborhood proposals for bike lanes, complete streets, walkability, transit, and creating
community equity through engagement. It truly has been a rewarding and intriguing
experience that's provided a great outlet. ❙❘❚
