Best Face Forward
A pretty-in-pink Scottsdale skincare studio from House of Form

M

elissa Pruett launched MELT by Melissa in 2014 and has
since had a stream of loyal customers. They seek out her
studio in Scottsdale, Arizona, not just for the first-rate
brow, lash, and skin services, but for the uplifting environment that she
has thoughtfully cultivated.

Pruett's empowering, multi-faceted approach to beauty is grounded
in self-care and Dala Al-Fuwaires, principal at local design firm House
of Form, illuminated those positive vibes at MELT by Melissa's new
location. Dubbed the MELT Mothership, the 2,500-square-foot
space-nearly quadruple the size of the old one-transports guests
through a juxtaposition of "strong and soft, bold and
subtle, natural and refined," says Al-Fuwaires.
Pink is synonymous with MELT by Melissa's
branding, so Al-Fuwaires let the hue take center stage
in the studio as well. Although "it was an absolute
dream to work with the color in a bold and unapologetic
way," specifying the perfect shade was a challenge,
she explains; it had to look good in both daylight and
under LEDs and "it needed to read as feminine and
strong versus nursery pink." Black, white, and sky
blue round out the palette, mixing with slatted wood,
tectum panels, raw concrete, and glossy tiles-material
choices that Al-Fuwaires describes as "texturally and
chroma-driven."
Ensuring that the treatment area, MELT by Melissa's
heartbeat, didn't resemble a clinical "sea of beds,"
Al-Fuwaires balanced the open space with a sense of
intimacy through accents like round mirrors, greenery,
and the Magic Mantra letter board. Guests can unwind
pre- and post-treatments in the coffee shop Gypsy Cup,
an independent operation that feels like an organic
extension of MELT by Melissa with seating sprinkled
between the two businesses.
