Guyana - Well Positioned for Future Growth and Success - 5

From an information and communications
technology (ICT) perspective, Guyana is also on
the move. The government has its ambitious E-Gov
Guyana initiative, which has seen the completion
of a three-container portable data center to support
e-Government applications and services. This will
back up the centralized facility in Georgetown,
which is being constructed with technology and
services from Huawei Technology Co., Ltd. E-Gov
Guyana is also building a terrestrial fiber-optic
network to support high speed data, video and
voice communication. Linked to this will be 4G LTE
wireless towers for last mile connectivity to critical
government agencies such as police stations,
airports, schools and hospitals. Countrywide, the
Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T)
provides international connectivity via the fully
redundant Suriname-Guyana Submarine Cable
(SGSC), with additional backup provided by the
Americas II cable.

All of this is occurring in a country with an
agreeable climate where temperatures range
from 23-31°C (73-87°F) and where, in the entire
recorded history of Guyana, there has never been
a hurricane. There likely won't be, either: though
Guyana is considered a Caribbean nation, it is not
an island, and it lies well below the hurricane path,
which begins far to the northwest.
