» IN A FLASH IN BRIEF TWO ACTIVE SHOOTER GUIDES PUBLISHED Two new documents on planning and response for active shooter situations have been released to aid local government and school officials. The InterAgency Board (IAB) has published "Active Shooter/Hostile Event Guide," a set of guidelines for municipalities to use to build their own customized active shooter plans and procedures. The guide is the product of a summit of stakeholders from around the country held in January. The report is a follow-up to the "Improving Active Shooter and Hostile Event Response" report released by the IAB last year. The report is at interagencyboard.org. In addition, the ASIS International recently released "Active Shooter," a 60-page white paper. The document contains 13 chapters written by members of ASIS's School Safety and Security Council, who each hold security and safety positions at colleges, universities, and K-12 schools, or are consultants to these institutions. Each author addresses a different proactive approach to preventing and responding to active-shooter situations. You can find the guide at asisonline.org. PAULEY EARNS ANSI AWARD The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has awarded the George S. Wham Leadership Medal to NFPA President and CEO Jim Pauley. The medal honors an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the voluntary standardization community and provided long-term direction and visionary qualities in support of the ANSI Federation. The medal is one of 18 awards and honors that will be bestowed as part of ANSI's 2016 Leadership and Service Awards. ANSI will honor Pauley and other award recipients at an October 26 ceremony held in conjunction with World Standards Week 2016 in Washington D.C.
