Health Literacy Can Start at Any Age
NEWLY DIAGNOSED & TRAILBLAZING:
The impact cancer has on every family member is significant and far reaching. It can be an emotional
and physical process for everyone as they adjust and adapt. Life may not look the same, you may shift
to new routines, or adapt in ways you did not see possible; we cope and sometimes it feels as though
we suffer. Challenges arise but there is beauty-a powerful silver lining-in the advocacy community,
we call it transformation or empowerment taking place. We often say, " Knowledge is Power " and how
" When you know better, you do better; " these sayings apply perfectly to health literacy.
ANGEL Advocate Michelle Anderson-Benjamin is a Thriver, a superwoman with a Pink Cape-she
is empowering others to evolve their health literacy. It has been heartwarming to watch her educate
her family and everyone around her on topics related to health literacy, advocacy, and empowerment.
Following is her most recent interview with OUR MBC LIFE.
AN INTERVIEW WITH MICHELLE ANDERSON-BENJAMIN
explaining how she is a caregiver for
her mother and the ways she has been
involved in her mom's journey. Auset
is already an empowered advocate,
learning about her body and family health history. As a child,
she is taking an age-appropriate active role in her participating
in her mother's breast cancer journey.
Auset has attended medical appointments with her mom and
has prepared questions to ask her mom's medical team about
her mother's cancer and what to expect. In spring of 2023, Auset
wanted to get involved with The Fearless Warrior Project with
her own blog. With the support of Michelle and the entire family,

Pajama Glam, young Auset was in her element and down to celebrate
her " fabulousness! " She had a wealth of information on
breast cancer awareness and was heard telling people she knew
the importance of self-breast exams " checking her buttons. " At a
young age, she was excited to share what she knew about cancer,
