A Look Back on My T
Journey with Cancer

he journey has not been easy, but
the purpose has been rewarding.
Through it all, I remember to
smile and see past the hardship's
cancer has brought into my life.
As I write this article, I am recovering
from brain surgery, reflecting on my journey,
and hoping that everyone reading
this will live an empowered life. I pray
you learn as much as you can about your
health conditions and keep the faith. Facing
recurrence or progression is a constant
thought on the minds of cancer Survivors
and Thrivers. Can this be managed, yes it
can. One can manage it by empowering
themselves with knowledge and having
a better understanding of their medical
condition and working as a team with your
medical providers. I feel that advocacy and
mentorship programs/initiatives should
be presented to patients at the beginning
of their journey. Progression requires a
strong support system and a lot of strength
and faith. Having a good medical team
and support network can make all the
difference in your cancer journey.
2020 was a year of awakening for me, it
was the year my cancer journey began. As
many women do, I completed my yearly
mammogram screening September 22,
2020. During this time my life was so
crazy due to the fact my partner of 11
years passed away August 6, 2020. I am
a grandmother raising an autistic child,
and I forgot that I had completed the
screening mammogram and was waiting
to get the results.
