A BIT
ABOUT
WIGS
Whether or not you choose to wear a wig will
depend on how comfortable you feel about
your hair loss and the way it looks. Some young
people get a wig and then decide that losing
their hair is not as bad as they had thought.
If you think you'd like to use a wig, ask the
social worker or the nurses where you can get
one from. Insurance will often pay for a wig too!
Wigs for Kids:
* Provides hair replacement systems for
children under the age of 18 who have lost
their hair due to medical treatments, health
conditions or burn accidents at no cost to

that otherwise could not pay for a hair system.
* For applications and information about the
Wigs for Kids affliate nearest you, call Wigs for
Kids at 440.333.4433 or visit www.wigsforkids.
org
* A social worker can help you fill out the
referral form of the application on page 4.

350 bandana designs and over 150 skull cap

of beanie hats, handkerchiefs, and Italian
scarves.

visit www.bandanas.net
Locks of Love:

organization that provides hairpieces to
financially disadvantaged children under the
age of 18 suffering from long-term medical
hairloss from any diagnosis
* They require proof of income, two letters of
recommendation, doctor's diagnosis and a
photo of the child without any hairpiece or hat
on.
* For more information call 1.888.896.1588 or
visit www.locksoflove.org
It might be a good idea to take some of your
own hair (before it falls out) so that you can
match the color. You may be surprised how
much a wig can look like your own hair.
You can take the wig to the hairdresser and get
them to style it for you - it may be a chance for
you to go for a completely different look (just
remember if they trim it, it won't grow back!).
