Short Takes continued Become a We Honor Veterans Partner: Hospice Professionals on a Mission We Honor Veterans is a national campaign that was launched in September 2010 by NHPCO, in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Its goal is to focus more attention on the end-of-life care needs of Veterans and to support hospices in meeting these needs. The campaign’s centerpiece is the We Honor Veterans website, where you can learn more about the special needs of Veterans, find tools and resources to assist with in-service and community education, share and exchange ideas and, perhaps most importantly, become a We Honor Veterans (WHV) partner. There are four WHV Partner Levels, based on a hospice program’s demonstrated work in serving Veterans. The first step, however, is to become a WHV Recruit. Enrolling as a Recruit The WHV website provides complete information, but here are the two simple steps: 1. Review the following with your organization’s CEO and senior leadership: WHV Campaign Facts, and WHV Overview and Commitment form. 2. Complete the WHV Partner Commitment form and return it to NHPCO. On approval of your completed commitment form, NHPCO will send you a welcome kit and your organization’s name will be listed in the WHV Partner Directory. As a WHV Recruit, your organization can immediately begin working on Partner Level activities—to earn your designation at Level 1, 2, 3 or 4. As you advance in your activities, you can also advance to the next Partner Level. Partner Levels and Activities Each Partner Level guides you through specific activities, using practical resources to progressively increase your ability to serve Veterans. As you achieve each Partner Level, you will receive a distinctive “V” Partner logo which you can use to symbolize— and celebrate—your service to Veterans. Listed below are the four levels and their primary goals: Level 1 Partner Provides Veterancentric education for staff and volunteers, and identifies patients with their military experience. Level 2 Partner Builds organizational capacity to provide quality care for Veterans. 32 NewsLine
