This Year’s Hospice Quilt is Here
In 2000, NHPCO created the first in a series of 12 “hospice quilts” to help celebrate National and Hospice Palliative Care Month in November. In keeping with this tradition, the final quilt in the series—for this November’s celebration— has now been developed. This year’s theme (“Hospice and Palliative Care… We Listen, We Care.”) was selected to complement the National Day of Listening that also falls in November—on the Friday following Thanksgiving. The National Day of Listening is a relatively new tradition started by the organization, StoryCorps, in 2008. It invites all Americans to conduct an interview with a friend, family member, or someone special in their community to enrich and preserve the relationships that bring meaning to their lives—something which hospice professionals have always encouraged and supported as part of patient- and family-centered care. The NHPCO commemorative poster (shown at right) is now available in Marketplace. Other promotional materials, as well as NHPCO’s new 2011/2012 community outreach materials, will be available in late September. For convenience, bookmark the Communications page of the NHPCO website now; all materials will be posted there.

Coming This Winter: National “Hospice and Palliative Care Buyer’s Guide”
NHPCO is developing a Buyer’s Guide as a helpful resource for members. It will be produced as a digital publication and included in an issue of NewsLine—but will also be posted on the NHPCO website for easy access throughout the year. This new resource will include a list of products, supplies and services of specific interest to hospice and palliative care providers. The listing will be organized by category (e.g., HR, Medical, Technology), and will include a handy link to each vendor’s website. It will also feature ‘buying tips’ from some of NHPCO’s most savvy members! While NHPCO associate members will be given priority placement, the Buyer’s Guide will include the products and services of non-members too. There is no charge for a standard listing, but there is tiered pricing for display ads and customized listings.
