People and Places Member News and Notes Mary Spengler Named Executive Director Hospice & Palliative Care of Westchester (HPCW) has appointed Mary Spengler to serve as executive director. Spengler has played an instrumental role at HPCW (based in White Plains, NY) since its founding 19 years ago, particularly as part of its development and expansion. She has been a member of the board of directors, chaired and served on various board committees, and has been an active member of the Development Advisory Board. Two Very “Hip” Events Raise Funds for Hospice Staff members at the Hospice of the Carolina Foothills (based in Columbus, NC and Landrum, SC) did something they never do. They wore jeans to work—on a Friday in July and a Friday in August. When asked why, they were proud to point to stickers they were wearing that declared their support for the National Hospice Foundation (NHF)—having donated at least a dollar to the cause in exchange for the opportunity to wear their favorite jeans. The July event raised money for NHF’s Disaster Relief Fund which helps hospices recover from disastrous events. The August event raised money for NHPCO’s We Honor Veterans program, of which HoCF is a Level One Partner. “People loved it, “said Marsha Van Hecke, the organization’s director of outreach. “It felt so good to be doing something for our hospice colleagues who might be in a bad place and for our nation’s Veterans who have done so much for all of us.” [NHPCO and NHF extend special thanks to CEO Jean Eckert for heeding NHF’s call for donations—and to the entire staff for their creativity and generosity.] Hospice of the North Shore & Greater Boston Appoints New VP of Marketing Hospice of the North Shore & Greater Boston (based in Danvers, MA ) has appointed Christina Della Croce as vice president of marketing, sales and business development.
