Thank You A s the year comes to a close, I have to admit it has been a very busy 12 months. While I wish I could say that things should be calm in the year ahead, that’s unlikely to be the case—but that’s not a surprise to any of us. The next 12 months will continue to keep us very busy. We have to keep our hands around quality reporting, while reimbursement threats loom ahead of us, and scrutiny continues to increase. However, there is no question in my mind that we will respond and adapt to all that comes our way. Among NHPCO, our affiliates, and most notably you, our membership, we find the most experienced, skilled professionals, advocates, teachers and supporters who will ensure that the highquality care we provide is the best that humankind can offer. In looking back over the past year, I am heartened by the dedication and passion I see throughout the broad hospice and palliative care community. The most important words I can share with you right now are rather simple: Thank you. I am so proud of the spirit of collaboration that is so palpable within our community. For this willingness to work together and speak with a unified voice, I am indeed grateful. During this holiday season, I encourage you to cherish time spent with your families and loved ones. Enjoy the special gifts found in quiet moments of reflection and in the traditions of the season. As we ring in the New Year, let the gift of love for humankind remain warm in our hearts all year round. J. Donald Schumacher President/CEO NewsLine 3
