And now for something completely different…The issue of HD you’re holding (or perhaps reading from your iPad) ventures into territory that is a bit unusual for us. We’re often told from readers that one of the reasons they enjoy our magazine and website is that our features and product sections offer inspiration. The way their peers in the design and architecture spheres create their work can set creative juices ﬂowing and inspire them to greater heights. That’s gratifying news, and we will continue to fulﬁll that mission. But as we begin the new year, we thought it might be fun to look at sources of inspiration beyond completed hospitality works. Most designers are sponges, drawing ideas from stimuli born from any number of sources, from Mother Nature to the news media. But one of the richest sources comes the visual stimulation of fashion, jewelry, photography, stage design, and other creative areas that populate our culture. So we offer this as a portfolio of bright ideas, created to give your imaginations a boost. We hope some of the images end up Photo by Oscar Einzig on your own inspiration boards—or at least tucked away in the corners of your mind waiting to bear fruit—as the year progresses. Also, another reminder that the HD Awards are drawing near and entries are now being accepted. This year we’ve added a new category—healthcare/senior living—as a way of honoring this very important component of our industry.
