In some respects, 555 International designer Karen Herold’s design for GT Fish & Oyster in Chicago was a family affair. She borrowed key features from her sister’s early 1800s Dutch fisherman village’s house, mixed it up with the modern ethos of a contemporary yacht, and hired her artist father to capture both eras in framed paintings. “Coming off the Girl & the Goat restaurant, I was looking for a more contemporary aesthetic,” explains Herold, 555’s vice president of design. “I liked the big contrast between new and old. I wanted to contrast the rustic fishing village with the other side of the harbor, the yacht and the old brass.” 86 hospitalitydesign www.hospitalitydesign.comhttp://www.hospitalitydesign.com
