First conceptualized to be a wine bar serving a limited food menu, it progressed to an American bistro (and a full cellar kitchen courtesy of Next Step Design). “The inspiration was based on the history of this property, which was part of a 300-acre tobacco farm owned by the family, Goodwin & Co,” she says. “I wanted the space to be an urban farmhouse of sorts. The major use of salvaged wood created a restrained rustic sensibility.” The back dining room (set against a lush private garden) and front bar are an ode to industrial chic, wrapped in that salvaged wood and punctuated with antique mirror coffer ceiling insets, blackened steel accents, oak tables, a walnut butcher block bartop, and steel blue distressed leather. “As with most New York restaurant projects today, budgeting was a challenge,” Moravek says. “The materials themselves could not be too precious, so we changed the way materials were executed, which allowed for inventive approaches.”

turned to Moravek for help. Their timing was serendipitous: she was in Vietnam on the tail-end of a six-month sojourn, and this was the kick start she needed to launch her own design firm, LVMinc, upon returning. For the restaurant, Goodwin, “the owners had lived in the area for more than twenty-five years and felt the place should be casual, chic, a home away from home,” she says, adding that keeping the integrity of the 1845 landmarked building was also a

> One of the most talked about features on Celebrity Cruises’ soon-to-be-launched Re lection ship is its namesake suite, marking a series of firsts for the cruise line. Designed by New York-based cruise ship design experts BG Studio International, the expansive twobedroom Re lection suite is larger than any on a Celebrity vessel, measuring 1,636 square feet, with a 194-square-foot balcony complete with outdoor Jacuzzi and rain shower. The master bath will feature a jewel-like glass box

Soaring ceiling heights (rare for a cruise ship) and 10-foot-high loor-to-ceiling windows offer expansive views second only to those the captain enjoys. Opulent finishes such as macassar ebony walls, a stunning mural, a bathroom clad entirely in limestone, and customized Italian furnishings round out the luxury offerings. Technology also plays a pivotal role in the suite, which is almost entirely controlled—color changing LED mood lights and all—with the touch of an iPad. “This suite elevates the cruise experience as if you are loating above the sea,” says Hans Galutera, BG Studio’s cofounder and principal. “Celebrity Cruises wanted another benchmark of staying onboard, marrying ultra-luxury, high-end residential living with maritime cruising.”
