TRAVEL A peaceful dusk settles on the Westin Resort, Aruba AN ENDURING ALLURE The Caribbean remains an ideal incentive destination, with new hospitality product and good value By Kinley Levack T here are simple reasons why the Caribbean remains an ideal incentive destination—it is beautiful, memorable, and easy to get to, plus it offers a variety of experiences, from serene days on the water to spirited evenings on the town. There are more complicated reasons why it has had a rough stretch lately: increased public scrutiny of business practices, a backlash against trips to resorts, and thus a general sense of panic among the incentive travel community. But Stephen Hahn, area vice president of sales and marketing for Ritz-Carlton Hotels, Caribbean & Mexico, says now that the panic that gripped the corporate community in late 2008 and 2009 has subsided, compa- nies have come to realize that business must move forward and that well-run, budgetconscious incentives are part of the action plan. “The bottom line is the Caribbean is a tremendous value,” says Hahn.
