2009 AWARDS PRODUCT INNOVATOR Honoring the Most Innovative New Products of the Year With just under 80 entries received, the ﬁeld of contenders for this year’s K+BB Product Innovator Awards may have been a little less crowded than last year, but the winning products were no less impressive and the judges assumed their charge with the same seriousness of purpose. As always, those that made the ﬁnal list distinguished themselves based on four criteria: originality, aesthetics, functionality and consumer appeal. All were carefully evaluated and discussed—at times quite passionately. Many thanks to our esteemed panel of judges, who, by the way, are requesting that specification sheets, among other items, be required for next year’s competition. Jamie Gibbs is principal of New York-based interior design and landscape architecture ﬁrm Jamie Gibbs and Associates, which has branch offices in Indianapolis and Amsterdam, the Netherlands. His work has appeared in The Wall Street Journal , The New York Times , House Beautiful , Forbes and House and Garden . Gibbs has authored two design books, participated in more than 50 designer showcases and created products for various companies. Susan Serra, CKD , principal of Susan Serra Associates, Inc., has designed kitchen interiors and other rooms for nearly 20 years in Long Island, NY, and the New York metro area. The winner of several national design awards, Serra is widely published in national shelter magazines, authors the blog www.thekitchendesigner.org and serves as a go-to source for kitchen-related information for consumer magazines, websites and top design blogs. David Stimmel is principal of Ambler, PA-based Stimmel Consulting Group, Inc., which specializes in kitchen, bath, custom millwork and industrial design. His work has been featured in more than 50 publications and on national television. Stimmel appeared frequently on HGTV’s Kitchen Trends, I Want That! and I Want That! Kitchens. He has won several national design awards, including multiple Kitchen of the Year Awards from K+BB magazine. John Buscarello, ASID, is principal of John A. Buscarello Inc., an interior design firm in New York City. His work has been published in numerous books and publications, including The New York Times, House Beautiful, Country Living and Woman’s Day: Kitchens and Baths. He has also appeared on HGTV and Bloomberg TV’s Report on Kitchens. In 2003, Buscarello was named a “Kitchen & Bath Design Leader” by Interior Design. He is a graduate of Adelphi University. Charles M. Rabinovitch is principal of the eponymous architecture firm in New York City and a graduate of the City University of New York and Cornell University. He has been responsible for the design of numerous residential and commercial projects completed during more than 25 years of practice in the metropolitan New York area, as well as elsewhere in the U.S. and abroad. His work has appeared in several national design magazines. Miriam Lissak is president of Weinreb • Schultz, a full-service interior design firm in New York City. The ﬁrm’s portfolio covers a wide and varied scope of projects, ranging from high-end residential to corporate to commercial and specialty retail installations. Lissak holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Fashion Institute of Technology and was assistant designer from 1981-1985 for Angelo Donghia. Her work has also appeared on the pages of K+BB. Christopher Coleman, principal of Brooklyn, NY-based Christopher Coleman Interior Design, defines his style as eclectic, colorful and modern. He is noted for his use of industrial slick materials, which create textural interest. Coleman was named to New York Magazine’s list of 100 Best Architects and Decorators in October 2002 and to House Beautiful’s list of 100 Best Interior Designers in November 2002, 2003 and 2004. Mark Brady is a Connecticut-based kitchen, bath and master suite designer/remodeler and master carpenter with more than 40 years in the industry. He specializes in 18th-, 19th- and 20th-century traditional homes and creating designs that combine Old-World charm with 21st-century technology.
