SHOW DIRECTOR’S NOTE No One Has Stopped Believin’ Jim Scott has more than 35 years of diverse experience as a senior executive and leader, retiring as president of the Plumbing Products Division at Elkay. With a focus on positive change and growth, Scott has helped develop organizations in North and South America, as well as in Asia. Always active, Scott and his wife Ann enjoy a large family with eight energetic grandchildren. He is an avid golfer, skier, chef, reader and photographer. With a lifelong interest in motorcycles, Scott has traveled from Chicago throughout the U.S. and Canada. One thing I’ve learned over the years is that success in business is often based on emotion, faith, a certain feeling. Well, I can tell you that KBIS 2013 in the city of New Orleans was all about believing. Our exhibitors believed it was time to launch new products, build a new booth, host a party and express confidence in the future. With the housing economy perking up, it is time to act. In addition to great new products, many exhibitors made good use of events and CEU sessions to draw attendees to their booth. Our attendees believed and signed up in record numbers for exceptional conference and keynote presentations. People on the floor took their time to learn, explore and establish connections that will lead to new business opportunities. Those new to KBIS were wide eyed and excited. Speaking of new to KBIS, I hope you were able to see the presentations at KBIS Design Studios by QueX (Page 20). It was wonderful to have eight top designers share their ideas using the latest in touchscreen technology. Special thanks to Veronika Miller of Modenus and to our design pros: Carmen Christensen, Cheryl Kees Clendenon, Andie Day, Lori Gilder, Meredith Heron, Corey Klassen, Susan Serra and Tyler Wisler. Follow them all on Twitter for great KBIS posts and continuing insights. We now look forward to the first-ever Design and Construction Week scheduled for February 4-6 in Las Vegas. Here, KBIS and the International Builder’s Show are expected to draw the largestcombined audience of any event in our industry.
