SHOW DIRECTOR’S NOTE KBIS: It’s all about the Experience With KBIS 2014 just four short months away, we are fast-approaching what is sure to be a significant turning point in our industry. Our co-location with the International Builders Show is the culmination of months and months of planning, all with you in mind. When we set out on this journey a little over year ago, it was clear that our attendees wanted to see more new products, more top manufacturers, more innovation and have more opportunities to network. Under that premise, we created “Design & Construction Week.” This collaborative industry event took on additional meaning last month, as 19 different associations have offered their support of our efforts and have joined us as supporting organizations. You can see the full list in the reoccurring special section in this issue of K+BB’s KBIS 2014 Countdown to Design & Construction Week starting on page 31. While we set out to create a larger, broader, more diverse experience, we still wanted to remain true to our core. I often think of a question my former colleague Jim Scott would ask when meeting with a customer or attendee. He would frequently ask people to describe their first experience at KBIS. While certainly an interesting way to start off a discussion, this simple question helped us get to the emotional core of what made KBIS great. I also often think of my first experience at KBIS. I literally joined the team days before the 2008 event and had no idea what to expect. This was one of the largest events we produced, and I had no experience in kitchen and bath space. Once I arrived in Chicago and had seen the show firsthand, I can honestly say that I have never seen or experienced anything quite like it. The exhibits were incredible, the aisles were packed, and there was an amazing energy throughout the convention center that was contagious. This was not just a show, it was truly an experience! Since joining KBIS in April 2008, much has changed. The market has gone from a period of great prosperity to a time of significant decline. With the market once again on the rise, I take great pride knowing that one thing has not changed – our commitment to the residential kitchen and bath design community. We believe that KBIS 2014 will be an experience like no other, and we hope all of you will share this with us. Registration is now open, and the early feedback has been incredible.
