NEWH - Fall 2011 - (Page 4)

chapter news Green >inDC The NEWH Sustainable Committee is creating a national tradeshow dedicated to sustainable hospitality. Dubbed the NEWH Sustainable Hospitality Design and Development Forum, it will be held on December 9th at the Capital Hilton in Washington, DC. “DC is an obvious choice,” says David Mahood, NEWH’S vp of sustainable hospitality. “With its range of hospitality brands, and vibrant support network, notwithstanding the hub of our government, DC has a lot going for it.” December 9th at the Capital Hilton in Washington, DC The concept is an intimate tradeshow with a small number of exhibits, and supporting keynote speaker sessions, ranging from healthy buildings to healthy lifestyles to technical advances in policy to LEED hospitality updates. The day will also be held in conjunction with a sustainable online auction, and feature networking opportunities, including a lunch and cocktail gathering on the show floor. Says Mahood: “We have deliberately limited the off-floor events to create as much face-to-face time between exhibitors, presenters, and all attendees. Since the event has a defined theme, we feel it is critical that exhibitors get to demonstrate their commitment to sustainable practices as well as presenters. We expect all attendees to gain valuable knowledge of not just sustainable hospitality but of the overarching need for a balance of consuming and conserving.” around the chapters fundraiser dubbed “White Hot Havana Night” (formerly the Bubble Bash) will be held at LIV Nightclub at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach on September 13th during HD Boutique. The night will honor the winners of the third annual SOFIE (South Florida Hospitality Industry Excellence) Awards and the Silver Star honorees. Chicago The Chicago Regional Tradeshow will take place on October 26th at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers.
