In May, Johanna Malen, traveled to Kathmandu, Nepal, to begin a 14-day sacred trek of the Himalayas. San Diego firms Graham Downes Architecture Inc., headed up by Graham Downes, and Architectural Concepts Inc. (ACI), led by Margit Whitlock, have joined forces. The collaboration will fall under the Graham Downes Architecture brand. The corporate headquarters of National Wallcovering in Little Rock, Arkansas, has earned LEED Gold certification. Winter Park, Florida-based Niemann Interiors recently completed Calypso, a restaurant refurbishment for the Marriott Resort in St Kitts, and started design development for the renovation of the hotel’s room and suites. The company is also working on a Hilton Grand Vacations project in Las Vegas. In employee news, Niemann Interiors design associate Suzanne Meyer recently had a baby girl, and Meg Bolton got engaged to Christian Carson. Patricia Greenwald, president of the Greater New York Chapter, has joined Macro Consultants LLC as project manager. Paula Calli is the new contract sales representative serving the Southeast territory for Design Within Reach. Pentimento made multiple light fixtures for Arrogant Butcher, a new restaurant at Cityscape in downtown Phoenix. Sorrentino Mariani Company has been awarded multiple projects: the Casino Del Sol in Tucson; the Casa Madrona in Sausalito, California; Holiday Inn Koger Center in Richmond, Virginia; and part of the Marine TLF Standardization program for multiple properties. The company also completed the second phase of the Hyatt Regency Chicago. HG Art and Framing Consultants announces new hires: Brian Chapman is now the marketing/branding specialist and artist Liaison and Eliel Rosario joined as a graphic designer; HG also welcomed new representation including Peyton Brown, Jim Hurley, Johanna Malen, Cathy Palmer, and Kim Swanson. L2 Studios, Inc. began a villa and public area refurbishment of MVC’s Mountain Valley Lodge in Breckenridge, Colorado. The company is also working on Orlando’s Mad Cow Theater and recently completed the office suite of Voxeo, an interactive technology firm. Melanie Finch of L2 Studios, Inc. and her husband Matt welcomed their baby, William “Liam” Thomas Finch in January. LUP Interiors recently moved their offices to a new location: 731 Brookhaven Drive, Suite 100, Orlando, Florida 32803. For the third year in a row, Broward County has selected Valley Forge Fabrics to receive one of the county’s 2010 Emerald Awards in the recycling category for environmental excellence. Yau Cheng of George Washington University is the winner of the 2nd annual D*scover Design Competition by Durkan. His carpet designs, inspired by a recent visit to Japan, earned him a $2,000 scholarship. Durkan is also one of the first participants of the NEWH Endow program, and has launched an on-going collection of designs that when specified, a portion of the proceeds from the sale will go to the NEWH Endow Scholarship fund. The inaugural grouping of patterns comes from the 2010 D*scover competition and additional ones will be added from this year’s entries.
