Lynda lynda.com
visit this online softwaretraining library to burnish your sketchbookpro skills, color calibrate in photoshop, master revit Architecture, brush up on inDesign prepress essentials, make the most of your Linkedin account…and much more. the site offers 40,000plus video tutorials searchable by topic, software name or manufacturer, and author (a roster of global experts). videos are viewable on a variety of media—including smartphones, for learning on the run—and are broken down into short sections so you can watch one subtopic at a time or digest a full 8hour series in a single sitting. some classes are free, such as one explaining how to create an online portfolio using Wordpress templates, while others are behind the pay wall. subscription rates range from $25 monthly to $375 annually—money well spent to keep current with software upgrades or expand your expertise.

The Contemporist contemporist.com
this online magazine is not new—it debuted in 2007—but its spare layout, easy interface, and great photography presentation make it a mustvisit for those seeking eye candy and inspiration. courtesy of its giant images and a brief teaser text, the site is also imminently scannable—a boon for the time crunched or those in need of a quick fix. click on posts for more indepth information and to be seduced by abundant images, or search by category (architecture, furniture, interiors, lighting, and miscellaneous). billed as a source for architects and interior designers to get the scoop on product launches and new projects, it’s also a great vehicle in which to promote your own: the site accepts submissions for “anything contemporary” and links to a Dropbox form for pitching materials.

Clipix clipix.com
Addicted to pinterest but put off by its lack of privacy and inviteonly status—a marketing conceit to ratchet up the anticipation and veneer of exclusivity? Look into clipix, a new Web service that likewise combines online bookmarking with file sharing and organization, but lets you choose whether or not you make public your inspiration boards—and doesn’t have a contrived wait list. (or, so far, the same cultishness.) if you are new to the online clipping phenomenon, this is how it works: Just add the “clip” button to your browser’s bookmark bar and click it to save images, articles, and merchandise to an unlimited amount of virtual bulletin boards. then share them (or not) as you desire. For added convenience, you can also sign in via your Facebook or twitter account.
