asked our audience on social

want to see in the museum,
as examples of their favorite
object or ones which they felt
are particularly well designed,"
Black says. "And we are
displaying over 200 objects that
they have selected, including

As far as temporary exhibits

go, the museum will endeavor to
explore design in its broadest range, from what touches us in
the everyday to the more unexpected work. For example, in
2017, the museum will focus on the designs from companies
like Google, Facebook, Airbnb, and Apple. "We want to
respond to the expectations of our audiences, give them the
tools to better understand and question the world around us,
to make better choices as consumers." -Meredith Landry

London, England's Design Museum has undergone a
transformation of both form and function.
In November, the museum-born in the basement of
London's Victoria and Albert Museum and then housed
on the city's historic Shad Thames Street-moved west,
to a refurbished 1960s British modernist building on
Kensington High Street. "We retained the building's
original spectacular roof, and underneath John Pawson has
designed a new interior, which frames the original building
in beautiful and unexpected ways," says Alice Black, the
museum's deputy director. "As you walk around the central
atrium, you discover changing perspectives on the building
and its structure. It is a pure delight."
The space includes three main galleries, a restaurant and
loads of learning space for the more than 60,000 students
expected to visit annually.
The museum's move has resulted in more than a
new look. Its mission has also undergone a revival. "We
have been working hard to change the way in which
the museum interacts with its audiences," Black says.
"We want to talk to a broad public about design and
architecture in a way that makes sense to all. Visitors
don't need to be design specialists or know much about
design to come and visit the museum and find something
exciting to see or do."
New exhibits in that vein include "Designer Maker User,"
which tells the story of design's impact on the world. The
permanent display is aimed at visitors who have limited or
no knowledge of design and will feature a range of objects,
