"California: Designing Freedom"
The Design Museum, London, England

Starting with the counterculture revolutions
of the 1960s and ending with Silicon Valley's
tech incubators, "California: Designing
Freedom" explores how the state's design
legacy has driven personal liberation around
the world. The exhibit at the newly reopened
Design Museum curates objects that embody
California's free-spirited culture, from
skateboards and political posters to iPhones
and self-driving cars.

"Designing a Playful City"

Runs through Sept. 3, 2017
"Designing a Playful City" makes the
case that playtime should be a priority
for children and adults alike. Interactive
installations, experiences, and graphics
showcase successful play spaces around
the world, highlighting how design can
encourage social participation and promote
public health.

"California: Designing Freedom" includes 200 exhibits dating from the 1960s to the present
and covers everything from the iPhone to political posters to a replica of the Captain America
motorcycle from the 1969 movie Easy Rider (above).

Runs through July 30, 2017
In celebration of Finland's centennial year, four of the country's
largest museums-the Alvar Aalto Museum, the Museum of
Finnish Architecture, the Design Museum, and the Finnish
Museum of Photography-joined forces with HAM to
produce this modernist mega-display. Architecture, design,
photography, and the visual
arts each have pride of
place in the exhibition,
which highlights the
movement's influence
over everyday life
and the arts
in Finland.

included this 1932
armchair as part of the
"Modern Life!" exhibition.
