Upholstered
seating and
rounded
corners have
both children's
safety and
adult comfort
in mind.

Warm-colored
lighting is easy
on children's
eyes and meets
functional
requirements.

PVC flooring is easy to clean
and warm to the touch for
socked feet. The chevron pattern
leads the eye into the café.

The NeoBio Family Park is an over-the-top children's paradise featuring an indoor play area, library,
café, and mini theme park all in one. The goal was to design a child's virtual city, says Li Xiang,
president and creative director of X+Living, Shanghai, which designed the space. The bright colors,
fiberglass creatures, and translucent tunnels are undoubtedly magical from a child's perspective,
but the challenge was not just to make it visually stimulating-children's safety was one of the most
important design considerations in this project, Li Xiang says. Having studied other family spaces, she
noticed children want to play immediately after they eat, so the play area and café are close together,
with clear sightlines so that kids always can be seen. "Parents can look after their children and also
have meals with an easy mind," Li Xiang says.
