THE VALUE OF GOOD DESIGN
For many companies, design's impact on
the workplace is more than just a portfolio
of creative ideas. According to an industryspanning survey from InVision, a
digital product design platform,
organizations that make design
a center of their overall business
strategy see design drive revenues,
greater cost savings, faster time to
market, and significantly higher
valuation.

Francisco. But the data collected in The New
Design Frontier, which included more than
2,200 companies in 24 industries, proves that
turning design into an organizational
strategy delivers measurable business
results.
"The most mature companies
see the widest range of benefits,"
says Buley, who headed the report.
Ninety-two percent of visionaries
(organizations with design as a core
business ideology) say their design
team has had a proven impact on revenues,
85 percent say design drives cost savings,
and 84 percent say it has improved time

to market for new products. They also see
greater employee productivity, and produce
more patents and intellectual property than
their peers.
Only five percent of companies achieve
the visionary status, Buley reports. Though
they come from all different industries,
"they tend to be led by people who recognize
opportunities to disrupt old ways of
doing things."

The survey also discovered that a "mature
design practice" isn't what most people
assume it is. "That was the biggest surprise
