Successful Meetings - January 2009 - (Page 10)

EDITOR’S LETTER The Authority on Meetings & Incentives Change for the Better I ’m sure you noticed that the Successful Meetings logo and the design of our cover look different. And there’s something funny about my photo—there isn’t one. I’m afraid I’ve reached the age where I look far better in a caricature than in a photograph. So the steady creep of lines and creases across my face has been turned into whimsical eccentricities that are much easier to look at every month. It’s all part of a redesign that we’re launching with this issue. Here are some of the big changes to look for: We’ve repackaged our columns, departments, and our contributed articles from industry experts into one robust education section under the Planner’s Workshop banner. It consolidates advice, how-to information, and case studies in one easy-to-navigate section in the front of the book, just after the News Update section. Capping off Planner’s Workshop every month is “Visionaries,” a new feature by Senior Editor Andrea Doyle that will profile trailblazers from all fields of business. You may take a tip or two from them that you can incorporate into your own success path. Our feature articles continue to offer great analysis of industry trends as well as how-to education. And all that information will be much easier to tap into with our Reader ROI boxes at the beginning of each article. These boxes offer a bullet point synopsis of the useful information contained in the articles. Destinations Editor Corrie Dosh has rebranded the travel part of the book as Places & Spaces. In the new format, the goal of the site reports will continue to be giving readers strategic information necessary in the site selection process. But this information will be presented in a feature style, making them similar to the types of travel pieces one would read in consumer travel magazines, with great photos and graphics. The site reports will also have more links back to our website where you’ll find hotel and convention facilities listings. We’re also debuting a new feature called “3 Days In…” that offers sample meeting and incentive itineraries from destinations around the world. So look over the issue, and if you have any comments or suggestions, we’d love to hear them.
