Arnold stressed that hotel contract negotiations will remain relationship-based despite the table being tilted toward the supplier side. “My job is to continue to build relationships with clients and come up with room rates and meetings solutions that are fair,” he says. —William Ng CIC Appoints Colin Rorrie Interim President The Convention Industry Council has recently announced that Colin Rorrie will serve as interim president and CEO, following the unexpected departure of Mary Power in May 2007 after a seven-year tenure as the organization’s president. Jason Clawson, president of Management Options, Inc., the association management company that manages the CIC, filled the post during the intervening months. Rorrie formerly as served president and CEO of Meeting Professionals International (MPI), from which he resigned in March 2006, and prior as executive director of the American College of Emergency Physicians for 21 years; he has also held positions on the boards for ASAE & The Center, among other posts. He is expected to serve for about four to six months, before returning to his association consulting practice.
