Close behind were socialnetworking applications such as Facebook and MySpace; 32 percent say they use it frequently or occasionally, while another 26 percent say they are interested in using it. But lack of interest was high as well: 42 percent expressed no interest in using social networking in any capacity. On the heels of these results, DMAI launched a series of free webinars aimed at planners. Among survey participants—the 500 planners attending DMAI’s February Destinations Showcase in Washington DC—webinars were the most widely utilized technology, with 58 percent of respondents saying they participate in them frequently or occasionally. Further, 27 percent who don’t participate currently are interested in doing so. “It’s not surprising that planners have a strong interest in webinars,” says Jim Duda, managing director of Destinations Showcase. “Meeting planning is one of the busiest professions, and many planners don’t have time to travel if it’s not for their own programs. Webinars allow everyone the opportunity to participate in quality education.” The next most popular technology among responding planners was text messaging, with 34 percent using it frequently or occasionally and another 20 percent interested in using it.
